Iron ochre in the soil
Iron present in the soil oxidizes upon contact with water and, in the presence of oxygen, transforms into iron hydroxide sludge. This reaction causes the formation of iron ochre. There are two different types of iron ochre:
-
Bacterial iron ochre, which forms in sandy soils
-
Chemical iron ochre, which forms in clayey or organic soils
Possible Causes

- The humidity level in your basement is rising abnormally.
- Water infiltrations are forming in your house.
- There are orange gelatinous deposits in your collection basin.
- You notice orange stains on your slab.

If you answered “yes” to some of these statements, you might be dealing with an iron ochre problem.
